TZO Fans reveal themselves

During preparation for our Spring 2011 run we were contacted by a mysterious organization calling themselves TZO Fans “the Unsanctioned, Unofficial Fans of The Zombie Opera”. Their mission was to spread the word about our show by leaving cute little felt zombie plushies around town with website tags on them. We were extremely tickled to have a secret support group like TZO and couldn’t wait to meet them.

On May 23rd they finally revealed their identities to us. The crafty TZO organization is made up of three members of Hack Pittsburgh: Mandy, Doug, and Val. Many thanks to TZOFans for helping to spread the word of Zombie Opera.  They may run a zombie plushie sewing class/workshop in October, closer to our Fall show. Stay tuned to our site, the TZOFans page and Hack Pittsburgh for more information as it comes. You can also follow them on twitter @TZOFans and @Hackpgh

Photos from our meeting with TZO Fans can be found in our gallery, on Picasa, and on Facebook.

What is Hack Pittsburgh?
HackPittsburgh is a non-profit, community-based workshop that allows members to come together and share skills & tools to pursue creative projects. Our membership is open to everyone but typically comprises inventors, engineers, scientists, programmers, hobbyists, artists, roboteers, families, entrepreneurs, and arts and crafts enthusiasts. Our focus is on collaboration, education, and community outreach… Please see their site for more info!

Spring Run Thanks and Recap

Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and see the Spring Run of The Zombie Opera, which ran at Chatham University’s Eddy Theater on May 6th and 7th.  Chatham’s larger performing space combined with sound amplification, enhanced visuals from the projection and lights, and a larger, flesh-hungry cast, brought this performance to a new level.  In the end, we had almost 300 people in attendance for this run, proving that zombies aren’t just a fall-time fancy in the “Zombie Capital of the World”.

As always, we wish to congratulate our talented cast for their superior performance, and really digging deep for the emotional impact of their characters.  A warm thank you to our dedicated stage extras whose participation included dancing (yes, dancing), singing, running, moaning, shambling, getting hit on the head, shot, dragged, and whatever else we could think of.  We especially thank our directors who infused our performance with depth and meaning, answering a lot of questions and helping the actors to channel their characters.  We congratulate our crew, whose love and familiarity of the project enabled them to create beautiful and visually disturbing elements to the show and provide top notch amplification of the music.  We thank our production team who fought tirelessly to spread the word, get us pumped, and bring their innovative new ideas to fruition.  We also thank Chatham University for the use of their amazing facility and express our deepest gratitude to our fiscal sponsor, New Sun Rising, and our other sponsors who enriched our project with their amazing products and services.  Thank you to all our project participants who committed themselves to our recorded segments- past and present- your efforts will never be forgotten.  And finally a very warm thank you to all of our fans who took the time to see this show and spread the word across the web.  Your support and accolades above all else make this production successful.

Amazing work, everybody.

Stay tuned for further updates as this project continues to grow, including DVD releases, future downloads, and many, many pictures!

School of Athens and Mr. Smalls get Bitten!

Zombie Opera’s leading man, Drew Fogle (Charles) and Pittsburgh’s own beloved Prog-Rock Indie Band, School of Athens, rocked the house at Mr. Smalls thursday night to record a special recitation of “I’ve Been Bitten” to debut at this Spring’s run of the Zombie Opera.

If you attend our upcoming May 6-7 performance, you will truly witness Drew singing in his element- accompanied by his own piano and the familiar stylings of his fellow bandmates, Mike Rush on drums, Johnny Naples on bass, and Neal Rosenblat (returning Zombie Opera guest musician) on the guitar.

Mr. Smalls Creative.Life.Support Sound Engineer Billy Rossi worked his production magic to the awe and respect of all, capturing the raw intensity of this emotional piece.  Without his enthusiasm, precision, and attention to detail, this amazing performance could not have been possible.  Zombie Opera wants to extend their most profound gratitude to Billy, our sponsor Mr. Smalls, and to School of Athens for such and intense and amazing experience.
